Matterhorn Bobsleds

The Matterhorn Bobsleds is an attraction that opened in 1959 at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. It is a reconstruction of the Matterhorn, a mountain in the Swiss Alps. Throughout the day, climbers dressed in Swiss mountain-climbing garb may be seen scaling the peak, often accompanied by Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse and Goofy.  This ride is considered to be Disneyland’s first thrill ride. It is one of my favorites because not only is it extremely fast and thrilling, but it takes you outside and inside the mountain; allowing the visitors to see the park from a higher view.

Hidden Secret: For many years, a basketball half-court existed inside the structure above the coaster, near the top of the mountain, where the mountain climbers could play between climbs. The court was accessible only to the climbers. There is a cast member break room inside the mountain at the base. The court is said to still be there today by many cast members and the mountain's climbers.
